Below we have offered some case studies to demonstrate how our process works. We help our clients locate lost assets whose existence, most of our clients were never aware. (The names have been changed.)

Kanaloa Makan - One Million Dollar Trust

One of the most memorable claims I have worked on involved a trust with unclaimed assets valued at over one million dollars.

After investigation, our team determined that the trustee lived on the island of Oahu. Unable to contact him via phone or mail, I flew to Honolulu.

His residence was a large apartment complex and I buzzed the intercom. I could barely understand him so I asked if he would be willing to come down to the lobby to meet me. He agreed and I soon learned that the cause of his speech difficulties was due to a stroke a few years ago.

I explained that we had located assets in the name of the trust his late parents had set up and that the beneficiaries, in addition to him, were charity organizations in Oahu, a homeless shelter, which was set to receive over 500,000. Another was a boys' school his father had attended as a child.

Working with someone with disabilities created unique challenges, but we made every effort to make the claims process smooth and straightforward. This included working with mobile couriers and notaries that met him at his residence and assisting him with obtaining the documents required.

Once the claim was paid, our client and I had the experience of hand-delivering checks to the beneficiaries.

I will never forget the moment we handed the check to the boys' school. The school vice president took an old yearbook off the shelf and showed our client a picture of his father as a student at the school. It was an emotional moment.

In addition to the various charities who benefited from the recovery of these assets, my client also received a sizable sum. It has enabled him to pay down his medical bills and buy a new car. His quality of life has dramatically improved.

Suzanne Carson - Shares of Stock

I recently worked on a case with a client whose unclaimed assets stemmed from shares of stock that belonged to her late father.

She had never had a relationship with him as he was a severe alcoholic and had abandoned her and her mother at a young age.

When I first spoke with her, she said that she wanted nothing to do with the assets as she saw them as a drudging up of bad memories. She explained that although she was struggling financially, she was not interested in our assistance or claiming the funds.

I allowed some time to pass, during which I thought about her case quite often. I reached out to her about a month after that initial call.

I gently offered her my opinion which was that this could be reframed and thought of as an opportunity for healing of old wounds and a way for her father to finally be able to give her something.

She acknowledged how much the funds would help her get on top of the piling bills and the debt she was in. I assured her that I would do 95% of the work, including ordering her father’s death certificate and working closely with the attorney as they went through the process of appointing her the administrator of her father’s estate.

Her claim progressed quickly through to payment and on the day she received the check in the mail she called me, elated. She expressed that this experience had indeed been a healing and positive one and thanked me for the gentle push I gave her at the beginning.

She told me that she was now not only able to get of debt, but she used some of the money as a downpayment on a small fixer-upper in her favorite neighborhood.

Receiving these funds has been life-changing for her and has enabled her to think about her future goals instead of living paycheck to paycheck.

Matthew Bowes - 100K Claim

The first time I spoke with Matthew was shortly after he had gotten off the phone with a competitor company. He was still in shock at learning that he had unclaimed assets but was still a little skeptical.

The representative from the other company was in Matthew’s words “pushy and rude” and didn’t take the time to talk through the claim process with him in a way that made him feel relaxed and informed.

Matthew and I spent over half an hour on that first call and by the end of it, after answering all of his questions and listening to his concerns, he was ready to sign and move forward with us.

Matthew’s 100k claim was paid over two years ago. He promptly bought a wonderful piece of land in the countryside for his young family and he and his wife set about building a beautiful home.

To this day, I still receive photos of his family enjoying their modern farmhouse. Matthew has told me more than once how grateful he feels and that their dreams never could have been realized without our assistance.

This story and many others are what make my job so rewarding!

What People Say

Testimonials and Referrals

"You probably don’t remember us, but last year at this time you gave my family the gift of a lifetime. I know that sometimes the money and assets you find for people end up being less important to the recipient than the money you found for us. This note is just to let you know what we’ve done with our windfall, and how much appreciated it has been. We’ve taken care of things that were long overdue. We’ve roofed our house, which was starting to rot. We replaced a window which was in bad shape. We replaced our driveway and the plumbing in our kitchen and bathroom and paid a lot of doctor’s bills. Our children have also gotten some of the things they’ve needed; heating oil, etc. Our son, a father of four, is laid off and we’ve been able to buy him groceries. It sounds pretty mundane doesn’t it? But when you haven’t been able to take care of these things for a long time it feels wonderful!
